Fernando Alonso: Lewis Hamilton might be the fastest driver in Formula 1 currently – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso revealed that Michael Schumacher is going to be the biggest ‘hurdle’ in his way in his 2011 journey but recently, he stated that his former teammate Lewis Hamilton is ‘maybe’ the fastest driver in Formula 1 at the moment.
Fernando Alonso was recently asked during an interview to summarise his rivals in 2011 including Sebastian Vettel, Mark Webber, Jenson Button, Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton and of course, his own teammate Felipe Massa.
He replied that it is not easy to stop Sebastian Vettel if he is leading a race as he is very fast and precise. On the other hand, his teammate Mark Webber is more experienced and calm. He said he is a more consistent driver so he rarely fails.
When talking about the two McLaren drivers, Fernando stated that Jenson Button performs exceptionally well in difficult races in rain especially or with the safety car which in the Spaniard’s opinion is a unique talent.
However, the highlight of Fernando’s interview was when he stated that Lewis Hamilton is a great driver and maybe the “fastest driver in Formula 1 at the moment.”
Other than that, he talked about Michael Schumacher’s difficult return to the sport in 2010 but stated that Michael is the “champion” and every driver on the grid respects him. He said his capability of surprising his rivals always confuses them and that
is why they call him the best at what he is.
“Massa is very quick, knows the team and is very hungry to win,” said Fernando while talking about his teammate.
He also stated that people have been degrading the Spaniard but later on, those very people come to him and “cry and tremble” when they want to take a picture with him.
“There is a difference between how brave people feel writing on the internet, and when I see the admiration I receive all around the world. I also think it's easier to write that there are so many people who are anti-Alonso than to write that 30,000 people
came to a test to see me,” said Fernando.
The 2011 Formula 1 season is definitely going to be an exhilarating and dramatic season and it is going to be interesting to see how the top running drivers compete against each other throughout the season.
