Fernando Alonso – “Schumi is my biggest threat”
Fernando Alonso of Team Ferrari has stated that Michael Schumacher is going to be his most dangerous rival as he is still one of the best drivers out there. He said that if Mercedes provide him with a good car in 2011, he is definitely going to cause trouble
for the Spaniard.
Fernando Alonso had an outstanding 2010 Formula 1 season but the strategic flaw by his team at the grand finale ruined his title run, as he was unable to secure enough points to maintain his lead. Fernando was stuck behind Vitaly Petrov in 7th place
for almost 40 laps, while Sebastian Vettel easily won the race, snatching away the title.
However, Ferrari hopes to rule out all its errors and hopefully perform “perfectly” next season. The team will reveal its new car on January 28th at their annual media event “Wrooom.” Since the teams are allowed to use KERS and adjustable rear
wings, Fernando is hoping for a promising car in terms of pace and grip.
He recently claimed that he is losing some weight in order to make up for the weight increase because of KERS. The Spanish driver went on to say, “There will be five world champions on the track and the most dangerous champion for me is always Michael. Now
in January if I have to choose one name I have to say Michael. He is a seven-time champion, he has nothing to prove, he had a difficult season but he is still a champion.”
Michael Schumacher was unable to give a good performance on his return to the sport after 3 years. The only driver to defeat Michael during his peak time in Ferrari was Fernando Alonso by bagging two consecutive wins in 2005 and 2006 seasons.
“He (Michael Schumacher) is still super class and if the car is right he will be a contender. No doubt Sebastian will be a contender, he will have experience and will be calm in certain moments," Alonso added.
However, Alonso did not rule out Sebastian or the two McLaren drivers Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button.
While commenting upon 20 Formula One races scheduled for 2011 season the Spaniard said, “I like 20 races, I like racing, competing so to have more races is welcome. But I also like testing so I'd like 20 races and more testing. It's not easy and it's unfair
for new drivers that they cannot test more.”
It would be quite interesting to see how these 5 champions collide against each other in 2011 season in maximum number of Formula One races so far.
