Fernando Alonso: Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing in a league of his own – Formula 1 news
The two-time Formula 1 world champion Fernando Alonso has recently stated that the reigning Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel is in a world of his own after the champion recently scored a win at the season opening race of the 2011 Formula 1 season
in Australia by a long margin over his rivals.
“Once again today, Vettel seemed to be on another planet, while the others were a bit closer, not to the extent they were on Friday, but at least not as far off as in qualifying yesterday,” he said.
However, Fernando added that he is not writing off his chances of winning title this year as the season has just begun. Alonso scored the 5th fastest time of the qualifying session of the Australian Grand Prix and finished in 4th place
behind Vitaly Petrov’s Lotus Renault GP.
Fernando started off the 2011 Formula 1 season ‘exactly’ from where he left the 2010 Formula 1 season that is behind Vitaly Petrov’s Lotus Renault GP.
“Finishing behind Petrov again like in Abu Dhabi? True, but it's a coincidence and then, at this stage it is more satisfying to have managed to keep Webber behind me, who I reckon will be a more serious rival in the title fight than the Russian,” said Fernando.
Fernando Alonso was able to keep Mark Webber behind him though even though it seemed during the mid stages of the race that Mark’s Red Bull was noticeably faster than the Spaniard’s Ferrari.
“We are in the right zone for us to be able to win a title, but definitely not if we keep finishing third or fourth. We have to improve, we know that, but it's still too early to make any predictions,” said the Spaniard.
Alonso added that the only option left for the team strategically is to opt for a three-pit strategy after such a poor start in Australia even though the fastest three teams that is McLaren, Red Bull Racing Team and Ferrari were on two-pit strategies.
Nevertheless, since it is just the beginning of the 2011 Formula 1 season, the teams are going to improve their respective cars as each race passes by. Ferrari are hoping to learn more about their car from each race in order to overcome the current problems
in the car in order to make it faster and more reliable for the upcoming races.
The Spaniard finished in 2nd place in the drivers’ standings in 2010 just 4 points behind the 2010 champion Sebastian Vettel but this year, he is aiming for nothing less than a title.
