Fernando Alonso: The most complete driver of modern day Formula 1Ferrari have been blessed with a driver that has the ability to drive any car to its maximum potential and then some.Fernando Alonso the champion of two back to back titles and of 2005 and 2006 has transformed himself into a mature and intelligent driver. Although he has never backed down from a challenge but his progress as a driver in the last two years has clearly put him among the most complete drivers of the sport. The Spaniard became the youngest champion in 2005 although Sebastian Vettel has bettered him by becoming the youngest ever champion in 2010 but the German has still got some ways to prove his mettle. Alonso was given a poor Ferrari car for 2011 and he went on his business of making sure that he makes the most of what he can from the car and the situation. He was able to conjure up a single win from the season but the year saw complete dominance from the Red Bull driver Vettel as the Red Bull team held clear advantage over its counterparts with the off-throttle blown diffuser.Alonso managed to finish the season at fourth narrowly missing third place to Mark Webber. It was his performance that saved face for Ferrari. Alonso’s teammate Felipe Massa managed next to nothing from the whole season. The 2012 season started with the team’s president aggressively looking for an improved performance after the 2011 debacle. The team went out of the box to come with a car that would match up the competition but it backfired and the car was far from being competitive but no one told Alonso that. The former champion eked out a win at the second race of the season in Malaysia under dodgy weather. Ferrari still needed to come up with a resolution to their car issues in order to remain competitive in the season. The team introduced updates that worked and that was more than enough invitation for Alonso to start to show what he can bring to the table with a half decent car.2012 has been a highly competitive season the first seven Grands Prix in the season saw seven different winners, and Alonso became the first driver to have to wins in the season. He then went on to become the only driver to record three Grand Prix wins in the season so far.First half of the season has been completed and the Spaniard is leading the drivers table with 40 points over second placed Mark Webber. Alonso has the cushion of points going for him but the last race prior to the season break at Hungary revealed that Ferrari once again are left behind in the performance race as the car clearly lacked pace against rival team cars.Alonso will return after the break looking for the team bring another update to keep up with the challenge but it is certain that even if Ferrari is unable to come up with good performance updates Alonso will manage give consistent performances and may as well be able to defend his lead.At moment the Spaniard looks to be the likeliest of drivers to take the 2012 title but the unpredictability of the season has been such that nothing is certain and it will be interesting to see how Alonso fares as Formula 1 gets into the second of the season.Disclaimer: The views expressed in this article are solely of the writer’s and do not reflect bettor.com’s official editorial policy.
