Fernando Alonso: We must turn things around – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that they need to turn the things around so as to start improving their performance right from 2012 Spanish Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.
The Spaniard said that despite having a struggling start this year, they have managed to perform reasonably well during the first four races in the season so far. However, he said that they need to buckle-up for the races ahead in order to make their position
stronger in the championship fight.
“Clearly, having limited the damage in the first four races this year, we must turn things around. Having said that, it's not the case that if we are not on pole in Barcelona then it's the end of the world. The important thing is to make progress, reducing
the gap as much as possible, first this weekend, then again in Monaco and after that, in Montreal, Valencia, Silverstone,” he said.
In addition, he said that they have made the essential evaluations about some of the major updates in their car during the three-day in-season test held at Mugello circuit last week in which have been successful in gathering some crucial data regarding the
car’s setup.
He added that they are hoping to see improvements in their performance in the next race. He also said they have planned to test some of the upgrades in the car during the free practice sessions on Friday.
“We have updates on the F2012, some of which we tested in Mugello last week and others which we will try out on Friday in free practice,” he said.
The two-time world champion is currently standing at fifth place in the drivers’ championship in the season so far with 43 points. Moreover, he is 8 points ahead of the German driver, Nico Rosberg of Mercedes.
Even though, the Scarlet team struggled throughout the pre-season testing programme during this year and faced difficulties in the start of the season.
Nevertheless, they are making the best of the efforts to make the substantial preparations and significant developments so as to reduce the gap to the contenders in the front.
