Fernando Alonso adamant to keep Webber from taking points in Korea
The Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso continues believing that the next race at the Yeongam track next weekend could play a decisive role in the World championship of 2010 season. The Spaniard is adamant to prevent the Red Bull driver, Mark Webber from bagging
more points in the next races.
The seventeenth race of the season, the Korean Grand Prix is scheduled to take place next Sunday at the newly-built track. Though there had been a lot of speculations and uncertainties for the race, as the construction work of the track delayed immensely,
yet the track cleared its final inspection this Monday, only two weeks ahead of the final race day.
Now the Formula One caravan heads for the next round of this thrilling and unpredictable season, expecting to get a step closer to the champion of the season.
At the last race in Suzuka, Alonso followed the two fast moving Red Bull cars to finish at third place on the podium. With his 206 points, the Ferrari driver currently stands at second place in the Drivers’ Championship standing 14 points behind the charts’
leader Mark Webber with only three more races to go. He is sandwiched between the two Red Bull men, as third place is occupied by Sebastian Vettel with his 206 points.
As the teams now prepare to move for the next round, the 29-year-old driver proclaimed, “In Korea we will have to attack because now we must close the gap to Webber.”
At this part of the season, Alonso believes that if they lose even a single opportunity to close gap in the next race, the chase for the title might become very difficult for Ferrari. So, he takes the next race as the last hope for the team to grab top place
in the Drivers’ Championship.
Looking at the pace of both the Red Bull cars at the last round, Alonso proclaimed that he might not be able to outpace them. Therefore, the team needs to make an excellent race strategy and his teammate Felipe Massa would also have to shave off as many
points as he can to assure their dominance.
At the last race in Suzuka though Alonso achieved his set target that was to end at the podium but his teammate was not able to complement him equally. After having a poor qualifying, Massa retired right at the first lap of the race, indulging himself in
a silly crash.
“The Korean Grand Prix could therefore start to be decisive for some - and for me it will be important also to be able to count on my team mate Felipe. I know that he will be really hoping to make up for two negative results and he has all the capacities
required to return to the podium,” the two times world champion proclaimed.
Moreover, although many believed that the chances of McLaren have faded badly at the last round in Korea, yet Alonso says that still the battle of the five goes on. This year has seen the comeback of the top racers over and over again, after they were thought
to be out of the tug. Keeping that in mind Alonso said that he is prepared to see any of the top five drivers strong once again.
Ferrari had been working on the new track for some time now as it is to hold its debut race this season. The driver further declared that all he knows about the track has been told by others and now he is looking forward for viewing it himself in little
time.
After the upcoming race of Korea, Brazil is to host the second last race while the last of the season is to be held in Abu Dhabi.
