Fernando Alonso admits McLaren are very strong at Hungaroring – Formula 1 news
Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso has admitted after the 2nd free practice session of the Hungarian Grand Prix that McLaren are very strong at the Hungaroring as Lewis Hamilton topped both of the Friday free practice sessions’ timesheets.
“We saw that McLaren looks very strong, as indeed it was last weekend. Now we must try and improve the car, especially in the third sector of the track, where we seem to be suffering more than most,” said Alonso.
Hamilton was looking comparatively much faster as he secured the fastest lap time of the second session after completing around 20 laps while Alonso completed 40 laps and the rest of the drivers went for more than 20 laps in the 2nd free practice
session.
“We finished the planned work programme and that's always a positive start to a race weekend. Now we will analyse all the data gathered and make the best choices for qualifying and the race. I am pleased I was able to do so much running, especially from
the point of view of studying the tyre degradation, which at this track is always a significant factor,” he said.
Either way, the Spaniard secured the 2nd place in the timesheets of the session and finished ahead of both Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber.
Once again, it seems that Ferrari and McLaren are much faster than Red Bull Racing Team and the Hungarian Grand Prix is going to be an extremely competitive event.
Since both McLaren and Ferrari have secured some pretty good results during the free practice sessions, they even have the capability of challenging RBR during the qualifying session this weekend keeping in mind that the championship leaders are undefeated
in qualifying.
The German Grand Prix was also won by Hamilton and if he maintains this pace and keeps scoring victories consistently in the next couple of races, he might have a pretty good chance of winning the title this year.
Same goes for Fernando Alonso as well but in order to defeat the championship leader Sebastian Vettel, they need at least around two retirements from him in order to recover from the points’ deficit.
