Fernando Alonso admits that his experience with McLaren in 2007 was an eye-opener – Formula 1 news
Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso has recently admitted that his experience with McLaren back in 2007 when he drove alongside Lewis Hamilton was quite ‘enlightening’ as he claims that both of them got to learn a lot since the team was led by Ron Dennis back then
and both of them are very competitive championship challenging drivers.
“That year was good overall, both Lewis and I learned many things. When you share a team with a top driver you learn to grow together. You improve in terms of preparing for a race and even from his driving style, because you share telemetry, so it was a
great experience,” said Alonso.
He also did not rule out his chances of driving alongside Hamilton in the future either as he claims that if they team up in another team, it would be a much cleaner struggle and it is going to be even more ‘informative’ for the two drivers.
There are rumours that Ferrari are interested in signing Lewis Hamilton for the 2012 Formula 1 season alongside Fernando Alonso since Felipe Massa has not been able to perform so well. Hamilton himself is also desperate for titles which McLaren have not
been able to give him since 2008.
It would definitely be a very entertaining sight to see Alonso and Hamilton in the same team once again as it reminds us of the time when Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost used to compete alongside each other in McLaren back in the late 80s.
“Of course we can catch them (Red Bull). The rules have changed, the blown diffusers will be forbidden, so the philosophy in the development and in the wind tunnel has to change,” he said.
Since both Ferrari and McLaren have failed to defeat Red Bull Racing this year, Ferrari have stated that they have shifted their focus to 2012. The Maranello-based outfit said they are still trying their best to compete for the title this year which is quite
reliant on Sebastian Vettel as Alonso cannot win the championship until or unless the reigning world champion makes some mistakes.
