Fernando Alonso aims to get closer to Red Bull Racing in 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that he is aiming to reduce the gap to Red Bull Racing in the 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix which is going to be held at Yas Marina Circuit this weekend.
Alonso is presently standing at second place in the drivers’ championship with 227 points. Moreover, he is ahead of Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus and is behind his main rival, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull who is currently at the top of the drivers’ standings.
Even though, Vettel has not been able to dominate in this season as compared to the last one in which he claimed 11 grands prix victories, but after winning the preceding four races, he has become the most favourite title contender and has earned a lead
of 13 points over the Spaniard.
Though, the Scarlet team is making the substantial preparations and the considerable advancements so as to hit back in the upcoming races. Conversely, the 31-year-old believes that it is very hard to entirely narrow down the gap to the defending champions,
but he insisted that they will fight hard to get near them.
“We've made some good preparations and there are some new parts coming that we will have to check tomorrow,” he said. “We don't think that we will close the gap completely to Red Bull five days after India, I don't think there is any magic button or magic
part in F1, but we will try to get closer.”
“They have had four very easy races where they have had a lot of margin and they can make little mistakes without any penalty, so we want to be close enough to take advantage of anything they don't do perfectly,” he added.
Furthermore, he said that if they want to win the title, they need to be perfect in the remaining three races. Besides, he expressed that he is targeting to take full advantage of their update package in the remainder of the season.
Let’s see how he shows up in this weekend’s race and whether he will be able to win the championship title or not.
