Fernando Alonso backs struggling Felipe Massa after 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has backed up his struggling teammate, Felipe Massa after 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix held on April 22.
Massa has only been able to score two points in the season so far as he secured ninth place finish in the Bahrain GP. However, his performance in the opening three races has been quite poor as he was retired in the season opener held in Australia, came 15th in
the second race in Malaysia and finished at 13th in the third race in China.
It will be important to mention that there have been many discussions about the replacement of Massa with Sergio Perez of Sauber who secured an incredible second podium finish in the second race.
Nevertheless, the team principal of Ferrari, Stefano Domenicali said that they are ready to provide Massa with everything which he would need to improve his performance in the races ahead.
Moreover, the Brazilian driver changed his plan of going home to see his family after the second race and headed towards the team’s factory in Maranello to work with the engineers in order to identify and rectify his mistakes.
In addition, Perez also expressed commitment with his current team after his impressive performance at Sepang.
Nonetheless, at the end of the last race, the Spaniard supported his teammate and expressed that Massa has got nothing to prove as he has already taken two victories at Sakhir.
“He had a great start, pulled away from the traffic and ran a super race. But we didn’t discover this just now; Felipe has won in Bahrain twice. He doesn’t need to prove anything,” said Alonso.
Alonso, who is currently standing at 5th place in the drivers’ championship, also said that they still need to make the necessary developments and substantial preparations so as to improve their pace in the approaching races.
On the other hand, Domenicali said that they have planned to launch some major updates in F2012 in the European season of F1. He added that they are looking forward to the Mugello test to make the essential evaluations of the updated car ahead of the race
in Spain.
