Fernando Alonso backs up his teammate Felipe Massa – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has backed up his teammate, Felipe Massa and has said that anyone who hopes to replace the Brazilian driver must have a record of strong past performances.
Massa has received a lot of criticism over his poor form in the first few races of the current season and has been surrounded by many rumours which are stating that his race seat is not secure in the Scarlet team in the next season as they are looking forward
for his replacement.
Meanwhile, Alonso has backed up his fellow mate in the team and has said that although the Brazilian driver struggled during the first few grands prix, nevertheless, he has fought back impressively well in the last few races. Moreover, it will be important
to mention that Massa delivered a remarkable performance in the Italian GP in which he secured 4th position.
The two-time world champion has said that they will respect their team’s decision regarding the matter while he insisted that who so ever will join them as Massa’s replacement should have a competent track record.
“I think we need to respect that the team will make a decision,” said Alonso. “In my opinion we need a driver that will respect Ferrari and respect the tradition that here we work for the team and for red cars. This is the first priority.”
In addition, he said that he has a very good affiliation with the 31-year-old as they have been working with each other for the last three years and share some very good memories.
“Second, I have been working with Felipe for three years now with very good relationship and if team decides to change Felipe the person that arrives has to be better than Felipe,” he said.
Over and above, he said that Massa has his own place in the sport and it is quite impossible to compare him with any other driver in the field.
“I don't know if you can compare what Felipe did in Formula One and what these little names did in F1,” he added.
Let’s see whether the Italian team changes its driver line-up in the next year or not.
