Fernando Alonso backs up struggling Felipe Massa – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has shown support for his teammate, Felipe Massa who has been seen struggling in 2012 Formula 1 season so far.
Massa could only score 2 points in the first five races and there have been many speculations about his replacement in the Scarlet team. However, the Spaniard has backed up the Brazilian driver and asserted that he will strike back in the upcoming races.
He added that all the team members are feeling confident that Massa will improve his performance in the season ahead after his 6th place finish in 2012 Monaco GP which was held at Circuit de Monaco.
“We know that there has been some coincidences and some bad luck and moments in particular races that he didn't score points he deserved,” Alonso said. “We know that in practice and in qualifying we are much closer, we are fighting, we are together in some
of the first corners, but then some factors make him always in some troubles, some incidents, and he lost points. But he has the talent, he has full support from our bosses, from me, from everybody in the team and we know the talent from Felipe. We know that
before later he will shine.”
It will be important to mention that according to reports, Ferrari was considering Sergio Perez of Sauber, who secured an impressive second podium finish behind Alonso in the second race at Sepang International Circuit in rainy conditions after starting
the race from 9th grid position, as a potential replacement for Massa.
Nevertheless, the team principal of Ferrari, Stefano Domenicali dismissed all the rumours and said that they are ready to provide Massa with everything which he may need to improve his performance in the approaching races.
