Fernando Alonso bags victory at Singapore Grand Prix
Fernando Alonso of Ferrari back lashed all his rivals once again as he bagged his fourth victory of the season at the Singapore Grand Prix. The brutal arena of Marina Bay showcased the season’s fifteenth round amidst a lot of tension and thrill last night
with the Formula One cars ramping at the illuminated street Circuit.
The much anticipated event gave a nail biting and jaw dropping racing spectacle, while the festive air of Singapore further spiced up the event. The Ferrari driver presented a tough battle to Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel, who finished just two-tenths of a
second behind the winner after a long vicious fight.
With this hard earned victory, Alonso has further strengthened his chances of claiming the world championship as it elevates him to the second place in Drivers’ Charts. As the race day started to unwind, it was Vettel, who showed off great pace and was quick
to move ahead of all others. However, Alonso chopped off Red Bull’s lead, placing himself in front and staying there until he saw the chequered flag.
Alonso held tight to his first place while Vettel followed him with just a difference of 1.3s. Hamilton was fast enough to safeguard his third place while Button soon emerged right behind his teammate to occupy the fourth slot. Webber, who lost his initial
position as he stopped to switch to hard tires, started recovering from his tenth position.
He moved past Schumacher at the 11th lap unsparing a little mistake of the seven times world champion. However, the Australian’s strategy of early tire change seemed to go in vain as Rubens Barrichello in his Williams kept preventing him from overtaking
for a long while. Nevertheless, Webber kept struggling, although, he knew it was late now. At the 16th lap, his radio revealed that the initial 16.5s gap from Alonso has now stretched up to 30s and now he needs to battle with Hamilton for the third place,
rather for the race win.
Meanwhile, for McLaren’s Hamilton, all the nightmares seemed to have come to life at the 36th lap as he collided with the Red Bull driver Webber, forcing him out of the race pointless with a broken suspension. The Australian driver continued his
race in his vibrating RB6 to end at third place, thus saving his top place in the Drivers’ Standings.
The collision was actually the big aftershock of a small event as BMW Sauber’s Kamui Kobayashi and HRT’s Bruno Senna collided into each other, thus inviting the safety car following which Webber and Hamilton collided. At the same time, Vettel and Alonso
in the front were having a tough clash for the lead as their engines kept roaring with a difference of just a second.
The German was fast and hostile on the harder-compound tires. But as the two finished the 61st laps, Alonso stood 0.2s ahead of his foe. The unfortunate ending of Hamilton granted the third place to Webber which made him return home happily with fifteen
points while his throne of points’ tally remained safe as well.
Moreover, Button stopped his McLaren at the fourth place despite a depressing mid-race period faced by the two team drivers owing to their serious rear tire-wear problem. Yet, Button struggled hard all through the two hours and brought home twelve points.
Nico Rosberg, the Mercedes GP driver had a good race day as he was competitive all through the race.
He drove alongside some of the most competitive cars, wrapping the day at fifth place with an uninterrupted clean drive while also neatly avoiding any mistakes on the track. With this, a great racing event of Formula One calendar ended but only to make the
race fans more curious and inquisitive to witness the next episode.
