Fernando Alonso believes Ferrari needs to work harder for future races – Formula 1 news
Fernando Alonso the winner of the recently concluded Valencia Grand Prix has said that the team still needs to improve if it wants to do better in the future races and challenge for the title.
Alonso is now leading the driver’ table by 20 points and is only driver to be a repeat winner in the season. It is a remarkable achievement as Ferrari struggled in the early stages of the season with the car.
“I think we always need to be cautious and we always need to be honest with ourselves first and with our supporters, saying that we will fight, will work day and night to be competitive and to fight for the title which is the ultimate goal for Ferrari,”
Alonso said.
“Any championship in which we participate, the championship should be the target, regarding the history and the level of the team, but yesterday we were P11 and P13 so we need to work,” he added.
He admitted that it is true the team believes that it can still win the Constructors and will not give up on that goal. The team has the confidence and will do everything to get the performance at the optimum levels at every Grand Prix. Yet the team also
understands that it is not where it would like to be. Ferrari is working hard to have the best car at the grid, it is an ongoing process.
Alonso emphasised that the qualifiers do not decide who is going to win races. He said that they do have an impact but at the end of the day it is still the race pace that wins races.
The Friday and Saturdays in Formula 1 are good to make some grid order in terms of the performances of each car and it is a good measure of where the car stands prior to the race.
Even though Ferrari is looking good but the title is still being challenged by Red Bull, McLaren and Lotus. All four teams are now clearly in the hunt for the top ranks. Mercedes is close but will need to perform more consistently.
