Fernando Alonso believes Pirelli will make Formula 1 racing more exciting in 2011
Ferrari's Fernando Alonso believes that Pirelli will add that extra guile in Formula 1 racing, in the 2011 season.
Pirelli has been introduced this season as a replacement for Bridgestone, as the lone tyre suppliers for the 2011 Formula 1 season and it seems that they are trying their best to improve their current tyre compounds in order to ensure that they deliver the
best possible product from their side.
The lone tyre suppliers recently stated that they are going to make some major improvements which would affect racing a lot, hopefully in a positive way.
Pirelli has introduced a number of compounds and it seems that there is a lot of variation in them in order to allow teams to mix up and play with their strategies at each race respectively. Other than that, since KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) and
movable rear wings have been reintroduced for the 2011 Formula 1 season, it seems that the new tyres are working perfectly with the two devices.
“Nothing else will contribute more to overtaking, because when you put on new tyres you can be up to six seconds faster than the ones who have not yet changed,” Ferrari's Fernando Alonso told the media.
It seems that most of the drivers are satisfied with the new tyres and this time, even Michael Schumacher believes that the new tyres are much better than the one’s Bridgestone introduced for the 2010 Formula 1 season.
Red Bull Racing Team’s Mark Webber also agreed with Fernando Alonso’s statement and believes that the new tyres will automatically make racing more exciting.
“I think there will be more overtaking. With different strategies there will be greater speed differentials between the cars. But sometimes it will be a car passing easily and disappearing, so I don't know how spectacular that will be,” he told the media.
Other than that, Pirelli Motorsport’s director Paul Hembery is pretty confident with his company’s new product and he dismissed rumours that the new tyres are now as durable as they are expected to be.
“No, I think three (pit stops per race) will be the maximum, and in most cases two,” he told the media.
The 2011 Formula 1 season is definitely going to be more dramatic and exhilarating and one has to admit, Pirelli will play a huge role in making racing more exciting in Formula 1.
