Fernando Alonso believes Sebastian Vettel should not worry about 2011 championship – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that the reigning world champion and current championship leader Sebastian Vettel should not worry about the 2011 drivers’ championship since he has a huge lead over his rivals.
“I don't know what's in his (Vettel's) head. But if I was him I would not be at all nervous. He only needs to have fourth, fifth places until the end of the season to be champion. And I think if I had a Red Bull and I had to do fourths and fifths I would
not be very worried. I don't think (Lewis) Hamilton would be (worried) either,” he said.
Alonso claims that even if the Red Bull Racing team driver does not win the rest of the remaining races of the season, he can still easily take the championship as he is 77 points ahead of his closest rival that is his teammate Mark Webber while Alonso and
Lewis Hamilton are further behind in terms of points.
Even if Alonso wins the rest of the races of the season, he still cannot win the title if Vettel keeps finishing races with good points as well. Sebastian can only lose the title if he retires out of at least two races of the season as a result of which,
his rivals would gain a lot of advantage in the drivers’ standings.
According to some current statements by the reigning world champion, he still seems worried about the 2011 Formula 1 season and he still wants to keep winning races at each of the remaining venues of the remaining season.
Vettel has won 6 out of 10 races this season and has secured 7 pole positions up until now. RBR currently have a perfect pole position scoring record this year but their chances of scoring some good results ahead of McLaren and Ferrari this weekend even
during qualifying are quite low since they have not been able to perform up to their expectations and are struggling to cope up with their rivals.
