Fernando Alonso believes no team has a clear advantage over others – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that that no team has earned a clear advantage over others after the first three rounds of the 2013 Formula 1 season.
Alonso performed convincingly well in the qualifying of the Chinese Grand Prix and managed to secure third grid position. He performed even better in the race and successfully claimed his first victory of the season after beating Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes
and Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus.
The Spaniard has already been deemed as the favourite contender for the title. However, he has said that it is too early to call anyone favourite in the field at this point in time and expected to see a clearer picture of the top contenders in this year’s
championship after the summer break.
Besides, he expressed that he is looking forward to see his teammate, Felipe Massa amongst the top drivers in the forthcoming race. In addition, he asserted that Lotus, Red Bull Racing and Mercedes are in the same position as they are, in terms of developments,
after the first three races.
“We need to wait until maybe after the summer break or something like that to clearly see the real contenders,” Alonso said. “Hopefully we are in that group after the summer. Hopefully Felipe [Massa] can be in that group as well, that will mean that the
car is going well, and I think at the moment Lotus, Red Bull and Mercedes are in the same position as us, let's say.”
Moreover, he believes that there is no team which is dominating or has a clear advantage over other contenders in the season until now.
“I don't see anyone has a clear advantage,” he said.
The two-time world champion took a great start to this season as he secured an incredible second podium finish in the Australian GP at Albert Park in Melbourne. But, unfortunately he could not score any point in the second race as he was retired. Nonetheless,
he is aiming to attain competitive results in the forthcoming races to make his mark stronger in the championship fight.
“Sometimes we can win, sometimes the maximum is third or fifth but we need to do the job,” he added.
