Fernando Alonso believes that Silverstone will suit Ferrari – Formula 1 news
Fernando Alonso believes that the characteristics of European Grand Prix track should suit the Ferrari car.
Alonso said that he is wary of the weather conditions that could affect the competitiveness of the car but overall he feels that it will be a good venue for him to increase his lead over other cars.
Alonso is the leading driver in the season and leads with 20 points over the second placed Red Bull driver Mark Webber.
Alonso is the only driver to have two Grand Prix wins after eight races have been completed in the season. It goes on to show the competitiveness that is on display in 2012 and even though Ferrari have had its share of car troubles Alonso has managed to
rise above those issues.
The Silverstone circuit is crucial for Alonso to increase his lead but it is a great opportunity for the out of luck and form Felipe Massa to come up with an improved performance after showing better understanding of the Ferrari car and the tyres at the
European Grand Prix.
“Looking at the characteristics of the circuit I think Silverstone should be a little bit better for us,” Alonso said. “It should suit our car characteristics a little bit better as we saw at the beginning of the year in the high-speed corners and also as
we saw at Mugello that the car was performing quite well. So hopefully we'll see a good Ferrari here this weekend with me and Felipe, and we'll see.”
Alonso did admit that the weather conditions can impact on the race but that it will not deter the team as they are prepared for any type of conditions.
He added that the race strategies will depend on the weather as well. The weather at the venue is unpredictable much like the current season. Qualifying will be important as well but managing the qualifying and the race strategies in changing weather can
be a little tricky but the team is confident it will come up with the results. The idea is to try and secure as many points as the team can.
