Fernando Alonso calls his worst rival the ‘favourite driver’ for this weekend
The Ferrari driver, Fernando Alonso calls Lewis Hamilton to be the favourite driver for this Sunday’s Grand Prix. Although Alonso and Hamilton had always been the worst rivals for each other yet after having seen the first two practices the driver believes
that people want to see the British racer at the top once again.
The Korean Grand Prix is scheduled to take place this Sunday at the freshly built Korean International Circuit. The first two Friday practices of the race took place under the bright morning sun. Hamilton ended the first session at the top place while the
second was finished by him at third. On the other hand, Mark Webber of Red Bull led the second practice session while Alonso drifted slowly during the morning practice ending only at 15th slot while in the afternoon he gained some momentum and finished
one place ahead of Hamilton.
Alonso now believes that the rest of the weekend is going to see Ferrari and McLaren in a very close tug. The pace of the British team has improved immensely than seen in the last two rounds in Singapore and Japan, and also its drivers are ready to give
in their best for better results. This race is actually the last hope for the two teammates as Hamilton currently stands at 4th place in the Drivers’ Championship while his teammate Jenson Button holds 5th.
Now as Alonso returned from the track he admitted that Red Bull was very competitive once again and McLaren has also upgraded immensely. The team tried to do well in Suzuka also but there they were struck with real bad luck. Despite of qualifying third Hamilton
had a poor race weekend. However, Alonso still reckons that Hamilton was favourite driver at the last round and his disappointed fans want to see him at the top this time.
While talking to the media after the first two practices the Spaniard said, "Various parameters make it difficult to make the right choices for the rest of the weekend: the evolution of the track which could even change the gear choice in key corners, the
level of aerodynamic downforce and the possibility of rain on Sunday. Obviously, being a brand new track, we have nothing to base our decisions on: it will therefore team work will be even more important than usual."
Moreover, the two times World Champion is also delighted to see the venue. He exclaimed that the delayed construction work scared him as that brought forward many negative comments. However, he is now pleased to see the addition of a great new fixture on
the Formula One calendar.
"This track is nice to drive, very interesting with three sectors each different to the other. In the first one, you need a very good top speed, in the second there are fast corners, with the third one featuring slow turns: it will therefore be interesting
to see what set-up choices the various teams will make for qualifying and the race. I like the part from Turn 4 to Turn 6, with very different lines and the possibility to overtake: it reminds me of the final sector of the Istanbul track.”
He concluded telling that overall the morning had been great and he has enjoyed the track immensely. He thinks that Ferrari has done a great job in their garage and he has been handed with a very nice car which makes him very confident for qualifying as
well as for the final race. He was excited to announce that the day has brought nothing negative and he hopes the same for the rest of the weekend as well.
