Fernando Alonso can still win the championship title – Formula 1
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso still has a strong chance to win the 2012 Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship and can surely give a tough time to his major rival, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing in the remainder of the season.
Alonso has performed tremendously well in the season until now and has surprised everyone with his amazing pace. Moreover, he has attained remarkable results even with a car which is not competent enough as compared to the other contenders. Therefore, he
has been considered as one of the most competitive title contenders in this year’s championship.
Event though, he has remained dominant for quite a long time in this season but he lost his lead in the drivers’ championship to Vettel who scored his third consecutive victory in the Korean Grand Prix.
Furthermore, after the preceding race, veteran German driver has been deemed as the outright favourite and unbeatable from now on. Nevertheless, the Spaniard can still fight back in the remaining four races as he is just 6 points behind the defending champion.
Besides, it will be important to mention that the team principal of Ferrari, Stefano Domenicali has said that they are not feeling disappointed over Vettel’s lead in the drivers’ rankings. He also said that it is to be noted that they have not taken part
in two out of the previous five grands prix due to which they lost some crucial points in the championship battle.
Nonetheless, he asserted that they are trying their best to come up stronger in the forthcoming races and are confidently targeting to close the gap to the 25-year-old.
“First of all we need to stay very cool,” Domenicali said. “Don't forget that in the last five races we have not raced in two, so the situation in the championship would be totally different if we were not out in the first corner. Don't underestimate this
important factor in the light of the championship.”
In addition, he said that the season has been very unpredictable until now and it is extremely hard to make any kind of projections about the races ahead. Thus, he said that it is almost impossible to ascertain that who is going to dominate in the upcoming
race. Even so, he said that they will try their best to make the significant developments in their car to improve its pace in the approaching races to secure a good position in the championship fight.
“We have seen, for example, one of our main competitors seems to be very, very strong up to [Saturday] and in the race was on a different pace with problems that we don't know. So things can turn up in a different way very quickly,” he added.
Additionally, ex-F1 driver, Niki Lauda has said that Vettel has not yet won the championship title and anything can happen as there are still four races to go.
On the other hand, Lewis Hamilton of McLaren has said that the 31-year-old deserves to win the title as he has fought for it so hard right from the start until now.
Contrarily, Romain Grosjean of Lotus believes that the Red Bull driver is the most competent contender and will claim the title as he seems to be invincible now.
It will be thrilling to see how the top two drivers compete in the Indian GP which is going to be held at Buddh International Circuit this weekend.
