Fernando Alonso claims an amazing pole for 2012 British Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has claimed the pole position for 2012 British Grand Prix which will be held at Silverstone Circuit on July 8.
Alonso showed an exceptional pace in the qualifying of the British GP and secured his first pole since 2010. Moreover, he ran on intermediate tyres and set the best time of 1 minute and 51.746 seconds.
The Spaniard was followed by Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing who set his fastest time of 1 minute and 51.793 seconds.
Michael Schumacher of Mercedes delivered an amazing performance in the qualifying yet another time this year and he will begin the race from third grid position.
The seven-time world champion was followed by Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull who secured fourth grid position for the forthcoming race.
The defending champion stayed ahead of Felipe Massa who despite struggling in the practice sessions has secured fifth place in the grid for the upcoming race.
Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus set the sixth best time of 1 minute and 53.290 seconds and was followed by Pastor Maldonado of Williams.
The Venezuelan driver was followed by Lewis Hamilton of McLaren who will take a start from 8th grid position. The British driver remained ahead of Nico Hulkenberg of Force India who came 9th in the timesheets.
Lotus driver Romain Grosjean performed quite convincingly and secured 10th grid position for the race ahead.
The French driver was followed by Paul di Resta of Force India who stayed ahead of Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber.
Nico Rosberg of Mercedes could not make his way into the final session of the qualifying and secured 13th grid slot. Besides, the German driver remained ahead of Daniel Ricciardo of Toro Rosso.
Bruno Senna of Williams set the 15th best time and was ahead of Ricciardo’s teammate, Jean-Eric Vergne who was followed by Sergio Perez of Sauber.
Jenson Button of McLaren could not make his way into Q2 as he struggled on wet track behind the wheel of his car. The Briton remained ahead of Vitaly Petrov of Caterham who was followed by his teammate, Heikki Kovalainen.
Marussia driver Timo Glock will begin the race from 21st grid position and he was followed by HRT pair of drivers, Pedro de la Rosa and Narain Karthikeyan. Furthermore, Glock’s teammate, Charles Pic will be the last driver in the grid of the approaching
race.
It will be important to mention that it has been forecasted that the rain may persist for the next few days and it will be quite interesting to see how all the teams perform on the race day.
