Fernando Alonso confident for second half of 2011 season after podium finish in Hungary – Formula 1
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso is confident for the second half of the 2011 Formula 1 season after finishing his race on the podium in the Hungarian Grand Prix held on Sunday, July 31, 2011.
Alonso talked to the media and said that his car has improved a lot and that it is working very well for the team since the last few races of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
The Spaniard shared his feeling with the media and added that he is pretty happy with another podium finish in the ongoing season.
The team driver had a good start in the Budapest race weekend, where he successfully finished his Free Practice sessions on the grid among the contenders. The qualifying round did not prove good for him, as he did not secure a position in the top three for
Sunday’s race. He started the Hungarian GP from the fifth place and after making a lot of struggle on the sets of supersoft and soft tyres, he ended up at the last stair of the podium.
Talking to reporters, Alonso said, “July was a fantastic month. I am the driver who scored the most points in July, in three different conditions, at three different tracks.”
The Maranello-based outfit driver praised the performance of McLaren-Mercedes team, as they took a positive step in the 2011 Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix.
The 30-year-old driver discussed the Hungarian Grand Prix and mentioned, “The start did not go as predicted, both Mercedes GP cars overtook us at the start, so I had to overtake Nico [Rosberg] and Michael [Schumacher], then with pitstops I was stuck behind
[Mark] Webber. After that I was able to push with free air, and was quite quick, but for the first 20 laps we were behind Mercedes and Mark.”
After finishing a race on the podium in Budapest, Alonso is at the fourth place with 145 points in the 2011 Formula 1 drivers’ championship, while Ferrari are at the third position in the constructors’ championship at the moment.
The team driver is confident for the remainder of the ongoing season following his positive race weekend in Hungary.
Let’s see how he performs in the second half of the season that begins in the last week of August 2011.
