Fernando Alonso deserves the championship title more than Sebastian Vettel – Formula 1
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has performed terrifically well in the 2012 Formula 1 season so far and has attained remarkable results even with an incompetent car, which proves that he has got some extraordinary driving skills.
The Scarlet team had a struggling pre-season testing programme this year and they failed to develop a competent car as compared to their opponents. Moreover, their technical director Pat Fry even ruled out the chance of a podium finish in the season opener
and expected to face difficulties in the first few races.
Nevertheless, Alonso has showed an impressive pace and has successfully scored points with admirable consistency right from the start of the season until now. Furthermore, he had led the drivers’ championship for quite a long time in this season. However,
due to his unfortunate retirement in two races, he lost some crucial points in the championship fight.
On the other hand, his main rival, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing has performed tremendously well in the last few races with his faster car and has earned a lead over him.
It will be important to mention that the Milton Keynes based team also struggled with their car’s design in the beginning of the season because of the changes in the regulations by FIA. Nonetheless, they effectively made the necessary advancement and managed
to develop the most competitive car in the field.
Conversely, although the Italian team came up stronger after the Mugello test, but they have failed to match the pace of Red Bull in the previous few races.
The Spaniard believes that they need to extract more from their update package, if they want to compete with Vettel in the title chase.
Besides, the president of Ferrari, Luca di Montezemolo also advised his team to work hard to provide their driver a car which is capable enough to fight for victory. Meanwhile, the team principal, Stefano Domenicali said that they are trying their best to
keep on making the essential developments in their car to achieve more. He also said that they are pushing harder to take more out of their upgrades so as to help their driver in winning the championship.
Though, the defending champion has been deemed as the strongest competitor in the title run, however there are many who think that the 31-year-old is the driver who really deserves to win.
Former F1 driver, Jacques Villeneuve has said that Alonso is undoubtedly the best driver in this year’s championship as he has delivered flawless performances. Contrarily, he asserted that even though Vettel is very quick, but the veteran German driver still
needs to learn a lot.
"I have no doubts: Fernando Alonso is the best, that's why I root for him," said
Villeneuve. "Seb is super quick, but there is a difference with Fernando that emerges in case of an unfavourable situation."
"Alonso remains calm, cool, and rational, while Vettel most of times gets upset, angry, screams and flicks the middle finger. He reacts like a child. These behaviours indicate two different states of maturity but, let's be clear, Sebastian is an ace too;
however, he struggles more in critical situations. He looks almost unbeatable when he leads, but if he needs to catch up he becomes vulnerable," he added.
It will be thrilling to see how the top two rivals compete in the final round of the season and who claims the championship title.
