Fernando Alonso expects a very complicated weekend in Canada – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that they are expecting a very complicated in Canada regardless of topping the timesheets in the second free Friday practice session at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.
Alonso set the fastest time of 1 minute and 14.818 seconds in FP2 and remained ahead of Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes. He remained very competitive on both low and high fuel and seemed quite comfortable behind the wheel of his car.
Furthermore, he successfully managed to collect the necessary data about the car’s update which they can surely use to make essential advancements for the race.
However, he has said that they have not been able to get the clear direction for the qualifying and the race because of which he is expecting a complex weekend ahead.
“Felipe and I made different choices for the long runs and this is another reason why we will have to wait for the outcome of qualifying to understand more,” Alonso said. “The only certainty is that we must ensure we make right
decisions, because today we saw how getting clean lap depends a lot on the time you make decision and what track conditions are like at that moment.”
“We can expect a very complicated weekend, because the weather is due to remain changeable right up to Sunday and judging the grip level will be difficult, both in qualifying and in the race,” he added.
Besides, he said that they could not complete their programme during the Friday practice because the track was wet. Nevertheless, he expressed that they are looking forward to test their updates in the final practice session in
order to develop a good strategy for the qualifying and the race. In addition, he insisted that the tyre management is going to play an important role in the forthcoming race.
Presently, the Spaniard is standing at the third place in the drivers’ championship with 78 points. Additionally, he is ahead of Hamilton and behind his main opponent, Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus. He has claimed two race victories
in the season so far. Let’s see how he performs in this weekend’s race.
