Fernando Alonso expects ‘difficult weekend’ in China – Formula 1 news
Formula 1 Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that he expects a difficult weekend in China, as there is not much time to change some parts of the 150° Italia car.
He also mentioned that he is busy preparing himself, for the challenging race, the China Grand Prix.
Alonso admitted that Ferrari is optimistic, as their drivers made some supportive points, in Sepang race. Ferrari had a disappointing start in Australia, but after the Malaysian Grand Prix, the team is confident for the season’s remaining races.
During the final laps of Sepang race, the two-time world champion experienced an accident with the Lewis Hamilton of McLaren. So, at the end of the event the Spaniard had to pay the penalty, as he was punished by the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile
(FIA).
Alonso was happy, following his improved race pace at Malaysia. He said, “In Australia we were not quick enough in qualifying, [and] in the race we were struggling a lot and were 40-50 seconds behind the leader. I left Sepang much happier because we were
fighting with them. We did not expect to be fighting with them, so there is a very positive atmosphere now in the team.”
Ferrari participated in the Malaysian Grand Prix and put their all efforts on the race. The team really worked hard and made an impressive run over the course. Both drivers, including Alonso and Felipe Massa ended their race with eight and ten points, coming
sixth and fifth, respectively.
Alonso said for the upcoming weekend that Ferrari must keep their work in the right direction in the Chinese Grand Prix, as they did in Sepang.
He further added that his team put some upgrades on the car. He explained, “In Shanghai, we are due to try a new front wing and a few other aero updates: let's hope they bring us something, but we will have to evaluate them very carefully in Friday's practice.”
On the other hand Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo responded at the Alonso performance and added that he wants him as ‘prime minister’ of the team, as he made the actual and realistic outing in the first two events of this season.
The season’s third race is scheduled to take place on April 17, 2011 at the Shanghai circuit.
