Fernando Alonso explains third place finish in 2012 Monaco GP – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that he didn’t aim to take victory in 2012 Monaco Grand Prix held at Circuit de Monaco on May 27 as he was just trying to beat his main rivals which include Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing and Lewis Hamilton of
McLaren.
“Our target was to obviously to finish in front of Sebastian and in front of Lewis as they were with us in the world championship,” he said.
Alonso secured an impressive third podium finish behind Nico Rosberg of Mercedes in the Monaco GP after beginning the race from fifth position in the grid and managed to overtake Vettel and Hamilton.
Furthermore, he said that all the contenders have been busy in making the necessary developments in their cars so as to improve their pace in every race. Moreover, he said that it is very hard to make any kind of projections about the season ahead as there
have been six different winners in the first six grands prix.
“If you go race by race you concentrate on different drivers, and the next one will be Mark because now he's second in the championship. So it will be interesting all through the season with the constant development of the car and the constant surprises
that we are having in every race. You never know which one is set for pole and for the race win,” he said.
In addition, he said that he is very much pleased with the performance of the car. Besides, he admired his team and expressed gratitude for all their efforts and appreciated the staff members.
The Scarlet team is presently at third position in the constructors’ championship with 86 points and they are 22 points behind McLaren. Over and above, the two-time world champion said that they are in a very good form and just need to keep on making the
essential advancements for the forthcoming season in order to reach to the top.
The Spaniard is currently leading the drivers’ championship with 76 points and is 3 points ahead of the defending champion. Above and beyond, he is confidently looking forward to win the championship title.
