Fernando Alonso eyeing podium in 2011 Italian GP after taking fourth place on the grid – Formula 1
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso is looking forward to a podium finish in the 2011 Italian Grand Prix on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at the Monza track after taking fourth position in the Qualifiers.
Alonso said that he is happy with his qualifying round results and it gave him a good chance for Sunday’s race.
The Spaniard added that he is confident Ferrari can have a good pace during the 2011 Italian GP as compared to the qualifying round.
The Maranello-based outfit driver came at the fourth place ahead of Red Bull’s Mark Webber in the final Qualifiers results at Monza. He had a gap of 0.566 seconds from Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel in Saturday’s session and now he will start his race from
the fourth place on the opening grid on Sunday.
Alonso commented, “We will see. Obviously there is this question mark for tomorrow regarding the degradation and tyres, the pace in the race, which normally it was in our favour and we are usually better on Sunday, so we will see tomorrow if we can repeat
this thing.”
The two-time world champion went on to say, “In the race, when you cannot open that wing on the straight, it is necessary to have the right downforce on the car. We see tomorrow. Sebastian did well today with a big margin for pole position, so tomorrow basically
at the start we need to stop him.”
Apart from that, the 30-year-old driver added that Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel did very well in Q3 as he successfully took a pole place for Sunday’s race.
The Ferrari team made a lot of changes and developments in their car for the Italian Grand Prix. However, Alonso mentioned that he is confident for the 2011 Monza race, as he believes their package will support them during the race.
His teammate Felipe Massa finished his Qualifiers’ run at the sixth place in Italy.
Let’s see whether Alonso is able to finish his Italian race on the podium or not following his positive qualifying round.
