Fernando Alonso feels Ferrari must stay ‘practical’ in the Chinese Grand Prix – Formula 1 Update
Formula 1 Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has recently updated the media that his team must stay practical and realistic in the upcoming Chinese Grand Prix.
He also mentioned that the drivers should be honest about their performance at the moment and concede their main goal should be podium positions rather than 2011 victories. Alonso said for the up-coming weekend that, Ferrari must keep their work in the right
direction to facilitate a positive change in their performance.
Alonso was happy, following his improved race pace at Malaysia, while his start in the 2011 Formula 1 season was disappointing for the team. Ferrari took part in the Malaysian Grand Prix and put their all efforts on the race. The team really worked hard
and made an impressive run over the course. Both drivers, Alonso and Felipe Massa ended their race with eight and ten points, coming sixth and fifth, respectively.
On the other hand, Alonso said that he expects a difficult weekend in China, as there is not much time to change some parts of the 150° Italia car. He further added that he is busy preparing himself, for the challenging race at the Shanghai circuit.
Alonso said, "We try to do the best we can, we have some new parts in the car but I think everybody will bring small improvements every race so I think performance wise we will be very similar."
Fernando admitted that Ferrari is optimistic, as their drivers made some supportive points, in the Sepang race. Ferrari had a disappointing start in Australia, but after the Malaysian Grand Prix, the team is confident for the season’s remaining races.
He went on to say, "Maybe when the car is okay, and when everyone puts new tyres on, everyone delivers a good lap and then in the race it is more difficult to do 58 laps in qualifying mode. We were able to do it in Malaysia."
Despite of his poor start in this season, the two-time world champion is looking for a successful Chinese Grand Prix that will start on 17 April, at the Shanghai circuit.
