Fernando Alonso feels Germany will make picture clearer for Ferrari – Formula 1 news
Fernando Alonso feels that the German GP will make the picture clearer for Ferrari whether the team has lost some ground to rivals or not.
The Italian squad struggled to do well in the British GP, especially during the qualifiers, where Felipe Massa was knocked out in Q2 whereas his team-mate had to settle for 10th place initially, but got promoted to ninth due to a penalty to Force India’s
Paul di Resta.
However, luck favoured the Maranello based team during race day, as both their drivers managed to score solid points in the end. Although they did not have the pace to win, Alonso finished on the podium, which was quite important for him to stay alive in
the championship hunt.
Moreover, his main rival, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull retired because of a gearbox failure, which also allowed the Spaniard to recover some points.
When asked about the previous race, Alonso said, “We were happy with the points we recovered but I was not happy with the performance. It is something we need to answer here - if Silverstone was just a one-off and we didn't have the right balance or the
right set-up for that particular circuit, or is it just really that everyone else did a big step forward and we did a step backwards?”
Other than the performance of the cars, the two-time world champion believes that the tyres will play a major role in determining the outcome of the next two races in Germany and Hungary.
He claimed, “Here and Hungary, we will be dominated by the tyres – how they perform on each car. So we think we should not be worried because the tyres should be good for us, or not worse than any other car.”
Alonso has been fighting hard over the past three years to bag the third title of his career, but he has been unable to do so because of the dominance of Vettel. However, things are looking good for him this season and it appears that he will not make life
easy for his championship contender. He will be hoping for some more luck like the last time around in Great Britain.
