Fernando Alonso feels better than the last year – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that he is feeling better for the 2013 Formula 1 season as compared to 2012, but insisted that he needs a better car to compete with his rivals.
The Italian squad faced immense difficulties during the last year’s pre-season testing programme and they failed to create full understanding about their car. In addition, their technical director, Pat Fry ruled out the probability of a podium finish in
the 2012 Australian Grand Prix.
Nevertheless, Alonso performed amazingly well throughout the preceding season and efficiently managed to restrict the damage for his team.
He was very well accompanied by his teammate, Felipe Massa after Ferrari made some significant developments in the Mugello test. However, he failed to win the championship because his main opponent, Sebastian Vettel had the fastest car in the field with
which he performed exceptionally well in the last few races.
The Spaniard lost the title by just 3 points to Vettel. Nonetheless, he managed to score competitive points for his team with consistency which helped them to secure second place finish in both the drivers’ and the constructors’ championships behind Red
Bull Racing.
The two-time world champion has said that he is in a better form than the last season. However, he asserted that he will need a more competent car in this season to compete well with his opponents and to fight for the title.
“I am better than last year, but also it is true that I need a better car than last year because we were too far from the leaders,” he said on Sky Sports News. “I expect the team to have a better car, but me and Felipe do not ask to be half second
in front of everybody two tenths behind everyone will be all right.”
Besides, he said that he is feeling more motivated after their successful pre-season testing this year.
“Last year was the best year of my career and I was very happy with the performance but I think we will do better because I have prepared better and I am more motivated than last year,” he added.
