Fernando Alonso feels excited about his home race in Spain – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that he is excitingly looking forward to perform well in the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix despite facing a reliability issue in the last race.
Alonso performed incredibly well in the qualifying of the Bahrain GP, but faced a DRS issue on the race day due to which he could only secure 8th place finish. However, he is not feeling upset and is positively eying to score competitive points
in his home race which is going to be held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona on May 12, 2013.
The Spaniard expressed that his victories in Barcelona, Monza and Valencia are the most memorable wins in his career so far. Besides, he said that he is eagerly waiting for the approaching race and to see his home crowd.
“My victory in Barcelona in 2006, along with Monza in 2010 and Valencia last year, are without a doubt the most meaningful wins of my career,” the 31-year-old is quoted as saying by La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“The warmth of the crowd and the emotions you experience when you race in Spain are always very special, from the moment you arrive at the airport, before checking in at the hotel and getting to the track,” he said.
Besides, he stated that he feels more motivated to see his fans cheering for him in Spain and he is aiming to deliver his best in the forthcoming race.
“And that's when you strive to shave another tenth of a second off your time, something that's always there in Formula One,” he added.
The two-time world champion is currently standing at fourth place in the drivers’ championship with 47 points. Moreover, he is ahead of Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing and behind his main rival, Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes.
Furthermore, the team principal of Ferrari, Stefano Domenicali has said that they need to resolve their reliability issues which hampered the performance of their veteran driver in the last race.
The 31-year-old secured second podium finish in the last year’s Spanish GP. Let’s see how he shows up at his home race this year.
