Fernando Alonso feels happy with his second podium finish in the 2013 Canadian GP – Formula 1 News
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that he is feeling really happy after securing second podium finish in the 2013 Canadian Grand Prix despite struggling with his car throughout the race weekend.
Alonso faced some difficulties during the qualifying at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and could only secure 6th grid position for the race while his main rival, Sebastian Vettel successfully claimed the pole position. Nevertheless,
he delivered an inspiring performance in the race and managed to secure second podium finish after overtaking Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes during the ending laps.
The Spaniard expressed that he couldn’t secure competitive grid slot for the preceding race as the qualifying conditions were not in their favour. However, he said that he enjoyed his fight with Mark Webber of Red Bull, Nico Rosberg
of Mercedes and his teammate, Hamilton in the race and is feeling immensely pleased to score the second podium finish.
“Yesterday obviously we didn't have a good qualifying; I didn't put a lap together and the conditions didn't help,” Alonso said. “But we knew the pace of the car in dry conditions on Friday was good so we had some hopes. Obviously
we are fighting with top drivers and I had a very good fight with Mark, with Nico and with Lewis at the end.”
“In the end I think this second place has a victory taste because we scored some good points after a very difficult weekend,” he said.
“I'm happy. Obviously we want to finish in front of our main competitors in the championship,” he added.
At present, he is standing at second place in the drivers’ championship with 96 points. Besides, he is ahead of Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus and behind his major opponent, Vettel, who is leading the championship with 132 points. He
has secured two podium finishes and two race wins in the season so far.
Although, he faced some reliability problems with his car in a couple of races due to which he lost some important points in championship. But, he has asserted that he is not feeling upset and is positively looking forward to perform
well in the season ahead.
