Fernando Alonso feels pleased with new updates in F2012 – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso is feeling pleased with the new updates which his team has introduced in F2012 during the free Friday practice sessions of 2012 Canadian Grand Prix held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal.
Alonso set the second best time of 1 minute and 15.313 seconds in FP2 and covered 36 laps. Moreover, he followed Lewis Hamilton of McLaren and stayed ahead of his teammate, Felipe Massa.
The Scarlet team came up with new exhaust configuration in both the cars in order to assess it for the approaching race while the two-time world champion expressed that he is very happy with the upgrades. In addition, he said that they have managed to gather
some important information which will definitely provide help for making the future developments.
“I am rather pleased with the way things went this Montreal Friday,” Alonso said. “This morning, we concentrated mainly on evaluating some new updates, while in the afternoon, we worked principally on a comparison of the two types of tyre, looking for performance
over a single lap and also to check the behaviour of the car with a lot of fuel on board. The first indications seem to be positive, but it is much too soon to draw any conclusions as Friday times should never be taken at face value.”
The Spaniard is presently leading the drivers’ championship with 76 points and he is 3 points ahead of Red Bull Racing pair of drivers, Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber.
Besides, he said that he is positively looking forward to perform well in the qualifying of the Canadian GP in order start from a competitive grid position on the race day.
It will be important to mention that Alonso’s teammate, Felipe Massa who has been seen struggling in the first five grands prix also drove impressively in FP2 which has boosted up his confidence for the forthcoming races.
Meanwhile, the Italian team which is currently at third place in the constructors’ championship with 86 points is trying to make the essential preparations so at improve the pace of their car in order to fight for this year’s championship title.
