Fernando Alonso feels positive after Friday practice in Bahrain – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that they are feeling positive after the free Friday practice of the 2013 Bahrain Grand Prix and is looking forward to perform well in the qualifying.
Alonso seemed very comfortable behind the wheel of his car in FP2 and came fourth in the timesheets. Moreover, he stood ahead of Paul di Resta of Force India and behind Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
The Spaniard expressed that they successfully managed to collect the necessary information about their car in the first two practice sessions. In addition, he said that they didn’t face any kind of trouble as they have not introduced any major updates in
their car for the forthcoming race.
“It was a positive day and we are reasonably pleased with how the car behaved,” Alonso said. “We had no major problems and more importantly, we didn't have to make any radical changes to the F138 to adapt it to this track and its long straights and slow
corners, characteristics which I like a lot and usually produce a great show in the race.”
Even though, he asserted that they are a little bit worried about the wind and sand at Bahrain International Circuit. Nonetheless, he said that they are confidently eying to deliver good performance in the third practice session and the qualifying of the
Bahrain GP. Besides, he said that they are hoping to stand amongst the top teams in the qualifying.
“Unfortunately, the wind and sand make everything a bit more complicated here, because the track surface never gets completely clean. However, the initial feelings are good and I think we can be up in the leading group tomorrow,” he added.
Additionally, he stated that they are not sure whether they will use the aerodynamic updates in their car during the qualifying or not. He also said that their focus is to manage their tyres well and to make effective strategy for the approaching race.
Furthermore, he said that they are studying the information which they have gathered in the Friday practice to develop the right car setup for the qualifying and the race.
