Fernando Alonso feels positive for 2012 Monaco Grand Prix – Formula 1 season
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso says that he is feeling positive for 2012 Monaco Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit de Monaco on May 27 after the practice sessions on Thursday.
The Spaniard topped the timesheets in FP1 with his best time of 1 minute and 16.265 seconds. Moreover, he ran on soft compound tyre and covered 22 laps. Later, he set the fourth best time of 1 minute and 16.661 seconds on supersoft compound in FP2 while
he completed 23 laps during the afternoon but he could not manage a clear run due to rain.
Besides, he said that they have tried some alterations in the setup of F2012 in order to improve its pace while he expressed that they need to keep working on the making the necessary developments and the significant preparations for the approaching season.
“I would say the first impressions are quite positive: everything seems to respond as we would expect,” said Alonso. “We only made a few small modifications to the set-up, trying to improve it, but it's obviously too early to draw any conclusions. Let's
say the weekend has got off on the right foot for us: now we must try and keep going down this path.”
He added, “Now, we must see what the weather will be like on Saturday morning: if it turns out to be dry then maybe we will do more laps than usual.”
At present, he is leading the drivers’ championship along with the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing. Additionally, he is 8 points ahead of Lewis Hamilton of McLaren.
It will be important to mention that the two-time world champion has won twice in Monaco and he is positively looking forward to perform well in the upcoming race.
Furthermore, it has been forecasted that rain may hit the Monaco circuit again on Saturday and Sunday. Above and beyond, if rain strikes on the race day, Alonso will probably become the most favourite driver as he took victory in the second race at Sepang
International Circuit in Malaysia on wet track.
However, no projections can be made for both dry and wet conditions in Monaco GP, as there have been five different winners in the first five races of the season so far.
