Fernando Alonso gets his name in the list of potential candidates for Red Bull – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has been included in the list of potential candidates to replace Mark Webber at Red Bull Racing in the 2014 Formula 1 season.
Webber is going to retire from the sport at the end of this season and the Milton Keynes based team is searching for his potential replacement for the next year. Many drivers have been included in the list of potential candidates for the vacancy which mainly
include Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus and Daniel Ricciardo of Toro Rosso. Recently, Alonso has also been tipped with Red Bull seat for the next season as the team principal, Christian Horner didn’t deny his talks with the Spaniard’s manager, Luis Garcia Abad.
Horner stated that they will keep all the conversations with the potential drivers confidential. In addition, he said that there are many drivers who have shown great interest to join their squad after this season.
“Any conversation between any of the drivers or parties is going to remain confidential,” he said. “But of course there are quite a lot of drivers who have expressed interest in the seat, as you can imagine.”
Moreover, he didn’t deny the ongoing speculations regarding Alonso’s link with Red Bull and insisted that they just need two competent drivers on their side so as to keep up the level of their performance in the future.
“Last week it was speculation about Kimi and now it's about Fernando. For us we want to make sure that nothing wavers in our mind about putting the right package together for next year. We need the two fastest drivers we can get that work collectively well
together and secure the best results for the team,” he added.
On the other hand, the team principal of Ferrari, Stefano Domenicali denied all the rumours and asserted that the two-time world champion has an agreement with them until 2016. In addition, he said that Alonso is an asset for the Scarlet team and they are
looking forward to work together closely in upcoming years.
“Fernando is an asset for the team and we need him,” Domenicali said.
