Fernando Alonso gives up on Ferrari team in Chinese GP – Formula 1
Two time world champion and current Ferrari driver, Fernando Alonso, has given up hopes for a great finish in the Chinese Grand Prix. The Spaniard said that back-to-back races always minimise the chance of bringing new developments in the car.
Ferrari’s team shattered fan expectations by not being where they were supposed to be, that is, at the top of the grid fighting with the Red Bull team. Both Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa have struggled in the opening two races of the season due to lack
of pace.
Alonso stated that no new developments are expected in the Shanghai race. “There is not much time to change cars so I expect difficult pace. We arrive in China knowing that it will be difficult but we will have some opportunities if we do things right”.
However, the Spaniard said that the gap from the Red Bull team has been closed down in a couple of races, which will be helpful for the team.
In Australia, both Ferraris were a second too slow behind the Red Bulls in the qualifiers and also in the race, but in Sepang, the gap was dramatically closed. Alonso was neck-to-neck with McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton for third place, only before they both crashed
and compromised their chances of a podium finish.
“I left Sepang much more happy because we were fighting with them. We did not expect to be fighting with them, so there is a very positive atmosphere now in the team”, stated the Spaniard.
On the other hand, the big guns of the Ferrari team, Stefano Domenicali, Aldo Costa, and, Pat Fry, are already back in the Maranello factory to sort out the pace issues of the Ferrari 150° Italia.
In terms of reliability, Sepang was also not a mark for Ferrari’s team because Alonso had an issue with his movable rear wing just at the crucial part of the race.
The Shanghai Grand Prix is around the corner and all Ferrari can do is to take the Sepang momentum and at least try to finish ahead of the new Lotus Renault GP.
