Fernando Alonso hails his time at Ferrari as his best
Ferrari’s Spanish driver Fernando Alonso has rated this season as the best of his career so far. The statement may be taken as bit of a stretch when one considers that he won 2 back to back world championships with Renault back
in 2005 and 2006.
However the statement carries more emotional value than actual stats, Alonso said that the way he has been treated at Ferrari and the connection he has made with the team is astonishing.
Fernando said that it has been an amazing experience for him this year driving for Ferrari; he added that ever since he joined the team he has been accepted as one of their own by everyone. Alonso said he feels at home with Ferrari
and the comfort level is something that he has never had in his career. The 29 year old went on to say that winning is obviously the most important thing, but to be comfortable and happy at a team is according to him equally important. Alonso, the 2 time world
champion said that if a driver is happy and feeling good about himself, the team, and the people around him, success always follows.
It will make it a perfect season if Fernando can get his hands on the world championship this season. However the Spaniard admitted that even if he does not manage to win, when the season ends in Abu Dhabi, things will not change
too much for him at the team.
"In terms of happiness, motivation, driving, the team itself, it's my best season," said Alonso,
"It would be nice to become champion this year, but if we cannot do it, I will still have great memories of 2010”.
Fernando Alonso said that all of this does not mean that he has conceded the title by any means. He reiterated that he is totally focused on winning his 3rd world championship, and the whole team is working day and night
to achieve that goal. Fernando said that next race in Korea is integral to his chances, and added that considering it is a new circuit it may be more of a level playing field than the previous races. Alonso went on to say that he has been assessing the Korean
track and it looks good for the F10 Ferrari car. The former Renault driver admitted that there are some parts of the track that may not suit his car best, but stated that it will be up to the skill level of each driver to handle different parts of the track
tactfully and to their advantage.
Fernando Alonso while commenting on his team mate Felipe Massa said that, he has never had a partner who has supported him to this level. Alonso said that Massa is one of the most selfless drivers he has ever met, and added that
his Brazilian team mate has assured him that he can count on all his help to win the championship.
Fernando said that when he joined Ferrari it was always going to be a tough task, as he had to follow on from the legacy left by Michael Schumacher. He said what Michael did can never be repeated, but he will do all he can to leave
his own mark at Ferrari.
Commenting on his title chances, Fernando Alonso said that it is anybody’s game right now. One good or bad weekend can change everything he said. Finally Alonso commented on the challenge from Red Bull and said that no doubt they
have the fastest cars on the circuit, but one should not forget Ferrari has always been the one to make remarkable comebacks at the tail end of the season.
