Fernando Alonso happy over his third place finish in British Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that he is extremely happy over his third place finish in the 2013 British Grand Prix after facing difficulties in the qualifying.
Alonso struggled a lot with his qualifying pace at Silverstone circuit and could only secure 10th grid slot for the race. Nevertheless, he delivered an amazing performance on the race day and efficiently limited the damage for his team by securing an impressive
third podium finish. Furthermore, he remained ahead of Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes and behind Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing.
The Spaniard expressed great delight over his result in the preceding race after which he successfully closed the gap by 15 points to the leading driver, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing who had to face retirement due to a gearbox issue.
“Obviously the result has been fantastic result for us in terms of the championship,” Alonso said. “It's very difficult to get 15 points more than Sebastian in any weekend of the championship but even more when you have a difficult weekend like we had here
in Silverstone.”
In addition, he said that they cannot get carried away with their result in the last race and must make the essential developments in their car to perform well in the German GP which is going to be held at Nurburgring on July 7, 2013.
“So definitely a good amount of points in the pocket this weekend, but we cannot forget that we have not been good enough and the next race is in five days' time; we are in free practice at the Nurburgring and we need to raise our game because this is not
enough,” he added.
At present, the two-time world champion is standing at second place in the drivers’ championship with 111 points. Furthermore, he is ahead of Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus and behind the defending champion, Vettel. He has secured two race victories and three podium
finishes in the season until now.
It will be thrilling to see how he performs in the season ahead and whether he is able to win this year’s championship or not.
