Fernando Alonso hoping for better performance at upcoming European Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that he is hoping for a better performance at this weekend’s European Grand Prix for which he would need luck by his side as the last race in Canada proved to be a very unlucky event for the former world champion.
The upcoming European Grand Prix is going to take place in Valencia, Spain which makes it the home race for Fernando Alonso. The Spanish Grand Prix took place almost a month ago where the Spaniard was looking pretty good but in the end, luck was not by his
side as a result of which, he dropped from 1st place to 5th place until the end of the race.
As for the Canadian Grand Prix, Ferrari were looking pretty good as Alonso started the race from 2nd place on the grid while Felipe Massa started from 3rd place on the grid.
Fernando’s fastest time was just around 2 tenths short of Sebastian Vettel’s pole position taking lap time but unfortunately due to the unavoidable circumstances during the race, the rain stopped the race for around 2 hours and the conditions made racing
very difficult for the drivers.
“To tell the truth, I've never been that lucky in this race since it's been held on the Valencia street circuit. Especially last year when, despite having a very competitive car, I finished down in eighth place. However, everyone remembers what happened
with the appearance of the Safety Car and there's no point going over it again,” said Alonso.
Alonso had a pretty bad experience in Valencia as well once before but this year, he is hoping for a payback for that experience.
“I would be more than happy if last year's misfortune was paid back now! In fact, it seems that in general so far this season, luck has not come our way: in the race in Montreal, not one damned thing went right,” he said.
Nevertheless, the former world champion is hoping for a good performance this weekend as Ferrari have been performing really well since the past couple of races as a result of which, they are hoping to challenge for race wins as well.
