Fernando Alonso hoping for some mistakes from Sebastian Vettel – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that since Red Bull Racing are pretty much dominating the 2011 Formula 1 season, he is now hoping for some mistakes from Sebastian Vettel’s side at this weekend’s British Grand Prix.
“It's true that we need to win races and improve our performance and be much more competitive than what we are now. But at the same point we need some mistakes from Sebastian to recover the gap, because without any retirements or problems for Vettel it is
difficult to recover the gap we have now,” he said.
Ferrari are currently going through a below par Formula 1 season as the team came up with a pretty reliable and good car according to the pre-season test session results. However, since the beginning of the 2011 Formula 1 season, Ferrari are yet to score
a win or a pole position even though the season is already eight races old.
As a result, the Spaniard is now 99 points behind the championship leader Sebastian Vettel and the only way to catch up with him is to expect the reigning world champion to make some mistakes and probably lose a handful of points in the process.
“He needs to do some mistakes if we want to have some hope, but we saw already in China or Canada that these mistakes can happen. We need to win every race we go to and we know that will be difficult so we need some help for sure,” said the former world
champion.
With the off-throttle Blown Diffuser ban expected this weekend, it is believed that Red Bull Racing will lose some valuable pace at Silverstone. Due to that, the gap between them, McLaren and Ferrari will decrease quite noticeably especially during the qualifying
session.
However, one has to admit that Vettel and Red Bull have gained a decent lead with 6 race wins and a perfect pole position score in 8 races. Catching up with them is going to require something more like a miracle for Ferrari or McLaren.
