Fernando Alonso insists Ferrari must work hard to recover – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that they need to work hard to make the essential improvements in their car so as to close the gap to the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
Alonso is currently standing at second place in the drivers’ championship and is 36 points behind the three-time world champion. Although, the Spaniard took a convincing start to this season, he faced some huge reliability issues which hindered his performance
in a couple of races because of which he lost some crucial points in the championship fight.
Therefore, he has insisted that there is no room to make any further mistakes and they must push harder to make the most out of their development process so as to make their position stronger in this year’s championship.
“All races are important from now on, especially in the position we are in,” Alonso said. “Being 36 points behind leader we don't have much more room to make mistakes or to lose many more points. But on other side we need to remain calm, we need to do our
job, do maximum we can every weekend. If we can win the race or finish in front of Sebastian it will be great and if we cannot do it we will try to lose the minimum points.”
“We need to keep pushing and we need to recover now these bad races that we've had,” he added.
In addition, he expressed that the Milton Keynes based squad have performed amazingly well in the season so far as both Vettel and his teammate, Mark Webber have attained competitive results with consistency because of which they have been able to earn a
strong lead over other contenders.
Nevertheless, he asserted that they are trying their best to make the necessary step-ups in order to come up stronger in the season ahead.
The two-time world champion has secured two race victories and two podium finishes in the first seven races of the season. It will be really exciting to see how he performs in the British Grand Prix which is going to be held at Silverstone circuit this weekend.
