Fernando Alonso insists Ferrari need consistency – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso believes that they need to perform with consistency in the season ahead to fight for victory in the 2012 Formula 1 World Championship.
Alonso is presently leading the drivers’ standings with 154 points and is ahead of Red Bull Racing drivers, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel. However, he said that the current lead over the other contenders means nothing to him as there are ten grands prix
yet to come.
Moreover, he said that the competition is very tight in the current season and insisted that they need to keep on making the significant improvements in their car F2012 to maintain their lead in the drivers’ championship.
“We are very happy with the points we have achieved in first half, but it means nothing because there are still another 10 races in which we need to improve car,” he said. “We need to be consistent, to keep finishing all the races. One or two drivers always
don't finish because of a mechanical problem or incident or something, so we need to avoid these problems.”
In addition, he said that even though they suffered with lack of understanding about their car during the start of the season. Nevertheless, he expressed that they have fought back really well in the season until now and they must keep on following their
planned developmental process to achieve more in the forthcoming races.
After winning the German GP, the Spaniard became the first driver to score three race wins. Additionally, he has claimed two pole positions and has been performing tremendously well in all types of conditions.
Besides, the two-time world champion said that he is not underestimating any of his rivals as he was given a real tough competition by the defending champion, Vettel and McLaren drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button. Nonetheless, he said that they have
efficiently limited the probable damage and are aiming to win the title this year.
“Sebastian and Jenson put a lot of pressure on us, also Hamilton was extremely quick, but he had some problems. At halfway through the season we have made a very good recovery,” he added.
