Fernando Alonso insists Ferrari need to extract more from updates – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that they need to extract more from their update package so as to be able to attain competitive results in the remaining two grands prix of the 2012 Formula 1 season.
Alonso performed impressively well in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and secured second podium finish after taking a start from 6th grid slot.
However, his main rival, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing is still at the top of the drivers’ championship and has earned a lead of 10 points over the Spaniard after securing third podium finish in the last race held at Yas Marina Circuit.
Therefore, the 31-year-old insisted that they must make the significant preparations to take the maximum advantage of their upgrades in order to claim victories in the last two races of the ongoing season.
“I think they helped because when we got them to the track they gave us some performance, but we are talking about a few hundredths for each and for sure we still have a gap to close that is a matter of tenths,” he said. “But when you bring hundredths and
your competitors also bring new parts, you are in the same position. So we have to work at Maranello day and night to bring new parts and the mechanics at the track are doing their maximum to ensure that hopefully we can win.”
In addition, he admired the performance of the veteran German driver who came 3rd in the preceding race after starting from the pit lane.
Besides, he said that they are trying their best to come up stronger in the remaining two races to reduce the gap to the defending champion.
Additionally, he said that they really need to improve their qualifying pace to secure a higher grid slot in the next two races.
The two-time world champion has performed tremendously well in the season so far, even with an uncompetitive car and has been deemed as one of the most competent title contenders.
It will be thrilling to see how he performs in the final two rounds of the current season.
