Fernando Alonso insists Ferrari to hit back in the season ahead – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has insisted his team to hit back in the forthcoming races after struggling in the 2012 Hungarian Grand Prix.
Alonso faced difficulties during the last weekend’s race at Hungaroring in Budapest. He could only secure fifth place finish in the Hungarian GP after taking a start from 6th grid slot.
Even though, he could not score competitive points as compared to his main rivals in the preceding race. Nevertheless, he is still leading the drivers’ championship with 164 points ahead of Red Bull Racing pair of drivers, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel.
“We have a lead of 40 points, courtesy of a car that has not been the best in this first half of the season,” said the 31-year-old.
In addition, the Spaniard said that they must make the needful improvements in their car’s setup during the summer break in order to make a stronger comeback in the approaching races. Nonetheless, he said that they have some crucial progress in the season
so far and have tremendously limited the expected damage for the team.
“Now we must try and make a good leap forward in terms of performance to allow us to keep the lead in the Championship, because in the long term, what we have now will not be enough. If we are where we are, it's because we have always made the most of what
we had and because of an excellent reliability record: it's not by chance that you get 23 consecutive points finishes,” he added.
Besides, he admired his team for all their efforts in making the most out of the given circumstances in the previous race and expressed that he is hoping to maintain his lead in the season ahead.
Furthermore, he said that he earnestly wants to take some rest and is pleased to have the summer break. He also said that during the summer smash he will refresh his mind and will try to get back in form again to make a strong mark in the upcoming races.
Let’s see how the two-time world champion comes up in the Belgian GP.
