Fernando Alonso insists he is not angry over accident in 2012 Belgian GP – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has affirmed that he is not angry at Romain Grosjean of Lotus over the accident caused by the Frenchman in the 2012 Belgian Grand Prix.
Grosjean and Lewis Hamilton of McLaren came across each other at turn one during the very first lap at Spa-Francorchamps and had a collision which caused the Lotus car to hit Alonso after it took off at the back of Sauber’s Sergio Perez. Eventually, all
the four drivers retired from the race and couldn’t score even a single point.
When the Spaniard was asked to give his views over the crash, he said that he is not angry with the French driver as he believed that nobody would do such a thing deliberately. Moreover, he called Hamilton and Grosjean aggressive drivers who were fighting
at a wrong tick which ultimately caused the crash.
“No I'm not angry,” Alonso said. “I think no-one is doing this on purpose. I think they were fighting, two aggressive drivers at the start - Lewis and Romain - and this time it was us in the wrong place at the wrong moment and we were hit. It's true also
that in 12 races Romain has had seven crashes at the start, so…”
In addition, he said that he was a little bit upset as they could not start the race again while he said that he was willing to score some points to make his lead stronger in the drivers’ championship.
Besides, he said that he is feeling quite relieved because he didn’t face any major injuries. Although, he said that he is feeling some pain in his back, nevertheless, he asserted that he is hoping to fight back in the race ahead.
“I feel OK, just a little bit of pain in my back because of the hit, but whether or not there's a problem it's just a shame we could not continue the race,” he added.
Above and beyond, even though the two-time world champion could not pocket any points in the last race, nonetheless, he is still at the top of drivers’ standings and is aiming to come up stronger in the races ahead.
