Fernando Alonso insists pole is less important for victory in 2012 European GP – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that pole position is less important to claim victory in 2012 European Grand Prix which is to be held at Valencia Street Circuit in Spain on June 24.
Alonso set the seventh best time of 1 minute and 39.733 seconds in the second free Friday practice session. Moreover, he and his teammate, Felipe Massa remained busy in testing the new updates in F2012 which included modifications in the aerodynamics and
some slight changes in the floor.

in the races after setting off from lower grid slots.
“This year, pole position seems to be less important than in the past and I think that is the case even on a track like this: it is always important to be first away, obviously, but it doesn't mean that if you start further back you have no chance of winning.”
Furthermore, he expressed that they have gather some valuable information during the practice sessions which will definitely help in making the necessary advancements and the considerable preparations to improve the pace of their car for the forthcoming
races.
“Now we need to analyse carefully all the data that Felipe and I have gathered and then put together the best combination of set-up and technical solutions for qualifying and the race.”
The two-time world champion has performed incredibly well in the season so far and is confidently looking forward to attain better results in the approaching races.
Currently, he is standing at second place in the drivers’ championship with 86 points. Besides, he is 2 points behind the leading driver, Lewis Hamilton of McLaren and 1 point ahead of the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
Above and beyond, he is certainly one of the most favourite contenders for this year’s championship and it will be very interesting to see that how the season progresses for the Spaniard.
