Fernando Alonso is happy with the results of the British Grand Prix - Formula 1 news
Fernando Alonso has described the recently concluded British Grand Prix as “an amazing weekend.”
Alonso topped the qualifying and on race day finished second behind Mark Webber. The Ferrari driver lead throughout the race and drove aggressively to keep other cars from displacing him.
Alonso fought hard with Lewis Hamilton earlier in the race but as Hamilton lost his way in the race the Aussie Red Bull driver was the only one to give the Spaniard a run for his money.
Webber finally got what he was looking for with only four laps remaining in the race and pipped Alonso as the Ferrari driver had used his tyres excessively in order to keep his distance but that aggression had a heavy toll on the compounds and in the end
Webber was able to move past Alonso with a fresher set of tyres.
“When you're leading the race and four or five laps from the end you lose the victory it's a little bit of mixed feelings at the beginning,” Alonso said. “But in terms of championship points etc it has been an amazing weekend again, increasing the gap with
Sebastian [Vettel] and with [Lewis] Hamilton so we need to be happy. But also we need to improve and next time hopefully have whatever we need to extract these extra two or three seconds to beat Mark as well.”
The weekend was also a good one for the struggling Felipe Massa who has been off colour throughout the season up until the European Grand Prix where he looked to have regained some of his form.
During the race at Silverstone Massa drove with confidence and aggression and showed that he has the potential in him to deliver the goods. Massa finished the race placed fourth adding some vital points for Ferrari to compete for the Constructors standing
led by Red Bull currently.
Alonso has been able to add points on both Sebastian Vettel and Hamilton in the standings, but has lost a few over Webber. The season is still wide open and the excitement is growing with each unpredictable race going by.
