Fernando Alonso is looking forward to Mugello test – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso is looking forward to the in-season test in Mugello as the team plan to launch some major updates in F2012 for the European season of F1.
Alonso secured a seventh place finish at 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix after he qualified for the 9th position in the grid. Moreover, he took an impressive victory in the second race held at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia in the rainy conditions.
Furthermore, he secured 5th position in the season opener at Albert Park in Melbourne while came 9th place in the third race at Shanghai International Circuit in China.
After the end of first four races, the Spaniard stands on fifth position in the drivers’ championship with 43 points. However, he said that they still need to make the substantial developments and significant preparations to enhance the pace of their car
in the races ahead. He also said that they lack in tyre management.
“As for the race, I can't say anything I didn't say already a week ago in Shanghai: the car is practically the same,” he said. “At some points we were strong, in others much less so, all dependent on tyre behaviour. We lack top speed and when you are in
a tight duel, that is penalising.”
Nonetheless, he said that they are looking forward to improve the car’s performance in Barcelona with some major upgrades.
“I said it earlier, we have to improve the car as quickly as possible: in Barcelona, we will have some major updates but so will the others and how good a job we will have done we will only discover on track at Montmelo,” said Alonso.
It will be notable that Ferrari team principal, Stefano Domenicali said that they are targeting for the podium finishes in Europe with some major step ups in the car.
On the other hand, the technical director of Ferrari, Pat Fry has expressed that to claim podium finish will not be easy as every other contender will come up well prepared in the Spanish GP while he said that he expects a very close tussle amongst all the
teams.
