Fernando Alonso is not going to take any pressure and will surely fight for title – Formula 1
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has been deemed as the second best driver after his retirement in the 2012 Japanese Grand Prix even though he had a lead of 4 points over his main rival, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing at that time.
The Scarlet team had quite a struggling pre-season testing programme this year but Alonso has performed impressively well in the season so far even with an uncompetitive car. Moreover, he has been considered as one of the most favourite title contenders
in this year’s championship which he really deserves too.
The two-time world champion has been one of the most consistent point scorers in the season until now and has surprised everyone with his incredible pace. Furthermore, he has completely outclassed his teammate, Felipe Massa who has struggled in most of the
races in the season so far.
It will be important to note that although he has led the drivers’ championship for quite a long time in this season. However, after his retirement in the Japanese GP which was caused due to a tyre puncture in the opening lap at Suzuka, his chances of winning
the championship title became less.
In addition, after the race in Japan, the team principal of McLaren, Martin Whitmarsh said that the Spaniard would definitely be feeling disappointment and immense pressure over his retirement. Nevertheless, he said that nothing can be predicted about the
season ahead as the competition is still very tight.
“Let's be positive about it, that's very much the case,” Whitmarsh said. “I guess Fernando will be going home more unhappy than most I imagine, so he's under some real pressure; more pressure frankly from Sebastian than from us, but I think nonetheless we
have closed that gap and we've got five races to go.”
“This is not the most sterling performance from us this weekend and in those situations you've got to go back, look what you're doing on the car and make sure that we get it as good as we can in Korea,” the Briton added.
Despite the unfortunate retirement in Japan, the 31-year-old will surely target to come up strong in the remainder of the season with an aim to win his third championship title.
